This is fascinating. I can’t follow verbal instructions or remember a phone number to save my life. I lose my phone multiple times a day. My 7 year old son calls me Dory.
But age 25 I went to the WW1 battlefields and remembered the exact location of both of my great-great uncles’ gravestones in each graveyard from a previous trip I’d taken age 12.
and that is so fascinating to me! Pulling this text together, I've just realised that I have basically put myself through school. I mean it was all verbal instruction + verbal retelling + verbal everything (at least for me in the 90s) and I have SPACED OUT of every lesson, then had to catch up on my own. Needless to say I felt stupid all the time 🥹
Totally get that feeling. I could never understand (also school in the 90s!) why everyone else just got it and I felt like I had to work 10 times harder just to retain anything!
The feeling stupid feeling is so difficult to unlearn isn’t it?! We’re not stupid, we just have a different operating system. And look what we achieved even when everything was made for different brains! We should be proud xx
